FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – D’BI.YOUNG ANITAFRIKA’S YEMOYA INTERNATIONAL ARTIST RESIDENCY BEING HOSTED IN NASSAU BAHAMAS BY DELANCY TOWNE BED & BREAKFAST

Yemoya Residency Bahamas_RFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

D’BI.YOUNG ANITAFRIKA’S YEMOYA INTERNATIONAL ARTIST RESIDENCY BEING HOSTED IN NASSAU BAHAMAS BY DELANCY TOWNE BED & BREAKFAST

TORONTO CANADA & NASSAU BAHAMAS OCTOBER 28TH, 2013

Internationally acclaimed dubpoet, mono-dramatist, and educator d’bi.young anitafrika has recently returned from Nassau Bahamas’ Shakespeare in Paradise Theatre Festival where she performed her award-winning sankofa trilogy to packed houses at Antonius Roberts’ Hillside Gallery and at Nirvana. anitafrika is now destined to return to the island paradise to curate the 7th year of her YEMOYA international artist residency at The Delancy Towne Bed and Breakfast. This magical partnership with Delancey Towne took root during her recent visit, while she was being billeted at the local bed and breakfast where a friendship ensued with visionary Leria Archer and local residents.

‘Delancy Towne in Nassau Bahamas is one of the heritage spaces where freed Black people provided covering for runaway African peoples who were formally enslaved. Once you arrived in Delancy Towne your liberation was within your grasp! We welcome local and international artists to experience this legacy.’ says Bahamian Entrepreneur Leria Archer, owner of the thriving bed and breakfast.

YEMOYA is an international artist residency that combines arts training with wellness practices for the holistic development of people. Founded in summer 2007 by d’bi.young anitafirka in Toronto Canada, YEMOYA’s intensive twenty-one day program focuses on the creative, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual growth of its resident artists. Using the SORPLUSI method – an arts-based personal and creative development methodology, originated by anitafrika through the seminal dub theory of her mother Anita Stewart and founded on 8 guiding principles of self-knowledge, orality, rhythm, political content & context, language of communication, urgency, sacredness & integrity, emphasizing holistic self-actualization – YEMOYA promotes social change through personal change. Participants of the residency create works of art catalyzed by their biographical experiences that are then mythologized to create the final art works.

anitafrika has taught the SORPLUSI method and conducted residencies in Africa, the Caribbean, Central America, South Asia, UK, Europe, Canada and now in Nassau Bahamas.

Full Scholarship To one Bahamian Artist As Well As Partial Scholarships Available
